Yahoo! has two match types for your keywords, standard and advanced. Your keywords will show using both match types by default. We have found that the advanced match type allows for your ads to be shown on a greater variety of associated keywords and phrases without having to enter in every single keyword combination and possibly even missing an important variation that could bring you traffic and clicks, saving you both time and money. About 30% of your ad's traffic will come from the advanced match type so make sure to use it.

We have also found that to just drop your "clickee" on the home page of your website is not terribly effective in creating a high conversion rate for most but not all accounts. We have learned that creating a landing page for each ad, or group of ads with a similar theme, that clearly addresses the product or service that is featured in the ad can help turn clicks into sales and increases your quality score on the Yahoo network keeping your click costs down. When we create a custom landing page, we include detailed sales content that is short and focused with a keen call to action. We even include a small online contact form as well as phone numbers. All of these things help to increase your conversion rate -- turning prospects into buyers!
Take time to assign separate bids by ad group for the content network. We routinely assign a dollar figure of about 1/4 of our search bids for our Content Match bids. Content clicks can still generate sales and the Yahoo! Content Partners are particularly good, but save most of your budget for search clicks as your conversion rate here will be better.
Make sure to use the Easy Track and Conversion Tracking script if at all possible. The information that can be gleaned from these account lead tracking tools is highly helpful in understanding patterns and customer activity. Use the ?src=overture ending on your links if you are not using Easy Track so that you can see your specific Yahoo! ad traffic in your web logs or statistics.
