Number of Colors
The higher your bit number, the more colors and shading combinations you can see in images and on Web pages. Many Web sites are now designing for more than the standard 256 Web safe color palette. Make sure that you are optimizing your viewing options.
Statistics on the average color depth setting are based on our personal findings from the year 2006:
| Color Depth | Percent |
| 32 bit (max color power) | 88% |
| 24 bit (16 million colors) | 4% |
| 16 bit (65000 colors) | 8% |
| 8 bit (256 colors) | less than 1% |
To view a more complete list of statistics, visit www.w3Schools.com and scroll to the bottom of the page to view the complete statistics on color depth.
Find out how many colors you are able to view currently. Your personal results will be shown below when you click the button.
If your setting is below 32 bit, you may want to change your Screen or Display Settings to increase your color depth. You can access your settings from the Control Panel or from your Start Menu Button. Select from either 256 colors, 8 bit, 16 bit or 32 bit as your color depth. The higher the bit number, the more colors you can view. You may need to purchase a video card to see more colors if you are using an older model computer.
We have also shown the actual number of colors your settings are allowing you to view, whether you have Java enabled and whether you have anti-aliasing fonts installed. All these options allow you to optimize your Web experience.
