Putting News Headlines On Your Site
We recommend using RSS/XML feeds to showcase articles, e-newsletter content, new pages, press releases, tips of the month, and other interesting content. Update your feed when you have something new on your web site that you want others to know about. The rest is all automatic!
When someone accesses your page with the embedded JavaScript, the newly updated page is shown automatically. Your content is fresh on your site and all other sites which have taken your code.
To take our JavaScript code to show our headlines, BBC News, CNN News, our newsletter or our blog on your own your site, simply visit our Feed Link Generator page, select your custom layout colors and styles, and grab the code.
We now offer specialized RSS/XML feed services for the client who is looking to syndicate their own articles or who desires to show information links supplied by RSS/XML feeds on their own website.

What is an RSS/XML News Feed?
Watch our online PDF slide show to learn how to get going with RSS news feeds fast using My Yahoo.
As you browse the web, you are seeing more and more sites featuring these small little boxes ![]()
. What are they?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary". What ever your choice for what RSS stands for, it means the same thing - getting your information out to others in an alternative way to search engines.
These small blue and orange images are icons for a link to a RSS/XML content feed. If you right click on the image, a link address will appear in your browser address bar. If you are using a news aggregator, you would paste the address into your news aggregator to receive updated information feeds from that website whenever they are updated.
What is a News Aggregator?
There are many news aggregators available, some free and some that even integrate into Microsoft Outlook. A news aggregator takes information feeds that you have selected and displays the RSS/XML feed links in a readable and browsable format.
The great thing about news aggregators is that you are in control of the items you receive and you can browse on a significant number of topics very easily.
With My Yahoo introducing an integrated RSS feed reader into their popular personalized portals in October 2004, RSS feeds have finally moved into the mainstream.
When Internet Explorer 7.0 is released in the late summer of 2005, RSS feed reading and aggregation will be an integrated feature. Microsoft has big plans for RSS both with Internet Explorer and Longhorn, so get the jump on your competition now by learning about and integrating these new technologies into your website.
What is the future for RSS/XML news feeds?
With inboxes being crammed with spam and web viewers tired of the "push" technology of current marketing trends, being able to choose what one views and to re-establish personal control and flexibility over information is a very appealing concept.
Webmasters are talking about RSS/XML feeds eventually replacing e-mail marketing campaigns. Corporations are expressing interest in RSS/XML feeds to have their information syndicated to many resources instead of just appearing on their own website.
There is even research into Podcasting which is an RSS feed for audio files that is currently under development right now. We predict nothing but growth in this fast moving technology.
Clients are interested in RSS/XML feeds for two reasons:
- To syndicate their own website or blog content on the web widely.
- To be able to show feeds of their choice on their own website.
- To manage their time more effectively by having news and content resources easily and readily available.
Check out our Feed Generator Page to see how you can create customized feeds for your website audience or how you can use this new technology on your own website.
How are RSS feeds integrated into a Web page?
Using a JavaScript function embedded in your own site's HTML code accessing an RSS/XML feed, you can show headlines and breaking news from entities like: BBC News, Green Peace, the Washington Post, and even news from McCord Web Services on your site; helping to keep your content fresh and interesting for your viewers. But there is more to it than just the JavaScript, additional server-side scripting is necessary to parse and return your feed on pages using your JavaScript. Find out more in our online resource section.
How you can get daily news headlines on your website?
Start by approaching the news service you like to find out if they have a feed and the rules to use it. Most will have you apply using an online contact form and will then e-mail you the JavaScript to include in your page. Some sites have criteria about how to display their headlines. Some will even allow you to customize the information for your own site.
